Norwegians rap against Bush

Columns: Living will is the best revenge
"Like many of you, I have been compelled by recent events to prepare a more detailed advance directive dealing with end-of-life issues. Here's what mine says."
[in part]
"Because I think I would retain my sense of humor even in a persistent vegetative state, I'd want President Bush - the same guy who publicly mocked Karla Faye Tucker when signing off on her death warrant as governor of Texas - to claim he was intervening in my case because it is always best 'to err on the side of life.'"
Precisely.

Googlewhacking: The Search for The One True Googlewhack

Not as easy as one might think.
And this will mark the third day and as many times I've read the word "fetishize" on the internet.
Anyway, closest I can get is 1-500, which I think is the average.
Can't think of a good band name? Try the Whack Stack.

If you live in Portland..

You know that there are only two competing radio stations that matter.
94.7 (alternative) and KUFO (rock).
Last year, one of the 94.7 dj's and his cohorts did this:
"While media outlets around the nation did not show the beheading, KNRK (94.7) listeners heard Berg's death over the airwaves, then heard the radio station's 'shock jocks', Marconi, Tiny and sidekick Nickie J. laugh and ridicule his death.
The radio station, KNRK at 94.7 FM, quickly issued an apology to its listeners and fired the talk show team."

Okay, well done. This is appropriate for the inexcusable behavior.
But KUFO wants to reward that behavior by hiring Marconi.
Thing is, that incident wasn't the only shitheaded thing he's said on the air while at 94.7.
The guy is a purebred asshole through and through, and I'm pretty angry that he was hired at the station I listen to while packaging socks.

"I did not mean anything by what I did on the air. Just didn't think it through."

[show producer Nic Miles]
"I made it very, very clear that morning. I had even asked everyone to stop, and focus on me, and understand that this was wrong, and I had a major objection to it."

Didn't think it through.
KUFO apparently endorses this behavior by hiring Marconi. They just lost at least two listeners.

Oh that just outright sucks.

Freemasonry and Washington D.C.'s Street Layout

"Since 1776, our leadership(U.S. Government) has been consistently moving us toward the Luciferic New World Order. This leadership has always been working through Secret Societies, misleading us as to their true intentions."

Coooool.

As you know, I am fascinated by freemasons, or as they are rarely known, the Phrees of the Atlantian era.
Read this yet?
Chapter 17: A History of Mars

It's best to start at the beginning of that series of books if you are not familiar with them.
The thing is, they really influenced my thought processes after the first book, and led me to look into RAW, Leary and Crowley, just to name a few, a little more deeply. I had been familiar with their work but my interest was piqued by this series.
Now I have an extensive collection of all of their works.
Well, I sold off alot of the Leary stuff, to my hindsighted dismay.
My Crowley collection takes up an entire bookshelf. Impressed? I didn't think so.

AS I write this, Ozzy Osbourne is on the Carson Daly, and I can't help but remember that the so-called Prince Of Darkness mispronounces the Beast's last name in the famous song about him. I can't forgive a british guy getting it wrong, least of all a guy who assumes the guise of occultism for marketing purposes.

I love this dog.

McMedia's latest feeding frenzy

Since there's been a bit-of-a-buzz going on in here about this, I thought y'all might appreciate reading my friend Jenn Matsui's latest piece in Counterpunch:

Made-for-TV Martyrs and the Angels of Death
Terri Schiavo: America's Most Desperate Housewife?

Trophy Hunting Advocate Asshole Named Acting Director of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

Hogan was formerly the chief lobbyist for Safari Club International (SCI), an extreme trophy hunting organization that advocates the killing of rare species around the world.

WTF goes on in some skulls just amazes me sometimes.
When I was younger, I used to fantasize about hunting the hunters.
Just for the trophy heads, of course.

The Irony.

I just heard on the news that Terri Schiavo had bulimia which led to her collapse, which led to her present state.
Terri Schiavo's Medical Facts & History: Bulimia, Coma, Brain Death
"Terri Schiavo had bulimia which produced a potassium imbalance which in turn caused a cardiac arrest. This shut off blood flow to her brain, much of which then died. Today her cranium is largely filled with spinal fluid, not brain matter."

The irony.

WTF Is A Bioethicist Anyway

Is that a real occupation?
Do people hire them to think this crap up?
“Human Non-Person”
The British academic John Harris has defined a person as “a creature capable of valuing its own existence.” Other bioethicists argue that the basic threshold of personhood should include the capacity to experience desire. James Hughes, who is more explicitly radical than many bioethicists (or perhaps, just more candid), has gone so far as to assert that people like Terri are “sentient property.”
Such thinking is not fringe in bioethics, a field in which the idea of killing for organs is fast becoming mainstream.

I'm not really seeing the ethics in the bio.
I think that assisted suicide for end stagers is an ethical procedure, but these guys go too far.
I argue that Everything. Has. A Conciousness. Therefore deserves to exist for as long as it's meant to, or until it wants to cease existing.

Except that scary spider crawling on the ceiling. That has to die.

Okay, I don't think that's art

Ananova - Hunters find 140 shoes filled with butter
A Swedish couple hunting on a remote mountain in Sweden's far northern province of Jaemtland have found 70 pairs of shoes, all filled with butter.

On the one hand, I can appreciate the random weirdness of it; on the other, it's just littering. Don't be doing that shit in Tibet, man. It's only value is it's weirdness, and there's already plenty of that without "artists" making a mess on a mountain.

Inside The ABC News UFO Documentary Hoax

"He explained how ABC News was going to make history by doing a serious expose of the UFO matter..."

Make history?
Phphahahahahaha!

"Instead, the final ABC News show was weaker in evidence than most tabloid cable channel pieces on the UFO subject - with the bulk of the `documentary' being interviews with UFO personalities, debunkers and the carnival atmosphere of UFO hotspots like Roswell.
While appearing objective and `balanced' to the general viewer, the project was, rather, a disinformation piece, carefully crafted to give the mere appearance of objectivity."

Pretty much.
Make history. Right.

I have a couple of his books, but that one is new to me.

We're currently in the process of rolling back a bad kernel upgrade that has significantly impacted the service. Restored app servers are coming back online and all should be repaired by the end of today.

I hope they get this straightened out soon. I'm growing ever more impatient.

ipkonfig.com
I don't know if it was coincidence, but after making the changes, Blogger opened much more quickly and I was finally able to edit a post or two.
At any rate, I do notice a difference in speed, like when the Blog This! returns an internal server error immediately rather than 10 minutes later.
Thanks To RA.

sometimes you just don't want to know...

Between being on vacation here and there and being off of work due to a root canal, I've had some spare time lately, and have been using the headache-less time to read things that I've been missing out on (such as this blog). Well, I got one such thing in my inbox today, and after reading it, remembered why I don't always make time for things like this. A word of warning: the disgust factor of that second link is high (also linked through story in first link).

And did they have fava beans on the side?

I am completely lacking Teh Funny at the moment, but if you're up for morbid foot-in-mouthness then I can pass you onto Jenn, who heard a real screamer over the weekend.

While waiting for Robot Chicken to come on I read this:
Running The Voodoo Down: MMM...BAD TASTE

Some people deal with difficult topics in different ways...
I found it at the MonkeyFilter.
And I quote
1) Choose Life
2)Add To Cart

"He’s a great gift for Valentine’s Day, baby showers, birthdays, get well-wishes, a pair of wedding bears, or any reason you dream up."

I can see this going over really well at a baby shower.

Scarab Dreamer (new co-blog)

Some of you have already heard by now that I changed webhosts and had a few glitches over the weekend, causing Ollapodrida to remain offline for the next few days until DNS resolves.

In the meantime, to put all of my frustrations and nervous energies to good use, I decided to start a collaborative blog and open it up to as many folks as would like to participate. The sky is the limit as far as subject matter (use your discretion, of course). We'll see how random and chaotic things can get without having to set too many guidelines and rules right off the bat.

I'm not sure how many invites Blogger lets ya send out for these sorta things, so just email me if you're interested in hopping aboard.

How to Fight the Religious Right

A guide to defending yourself against Fundamentalist Christians
Ask them if they are absolutely positive that the Bible is right. Of course they'll say yes. Ask them if every word of it can be taken literally to understand God's creation plan for mankind. They'll say yes again. Then ask them if that means they believe God supports our right to use marijuana, cocaine, or opium. And of course, they'll say no. Then simply quote Genesis 1:29, where God states quite clearly that he made "every" plant and "every" seed to be used by mankind.
In a nutshell~
"Why are they allowed to commit some sins yet feel free to condemn someone else's?"

Pagan Christs

Where did the dying-reborn God myth start?

See also Origins of Easter
"Most religious historians believe that many elements of the Christian observance of Easter were derived from earlier Pagan celebrations."

"Ishtar", which is pronounced "Easter" was a day that commemorated the resurrection of one of their gods that they called "Tammuz", who was believed to be the only begotten son of the moon-goddess and the sun-god.

Alternatively,
"Most reference books say that the name 'Easter' derived from the Eastre, the Teutonic goddess of Spring."

So remember, Easter isn't only about a relatively new fable of ressurection. Fables are fables are fables, and never to be taken literally.
And this is just too creepy....

Tom DeLay Pulled the Plug on His Own Father (via Cabal)

Family of the lawmaker involved in the Schiavo case decided in '88 to let his comatose father die
"The situation faced by the congressman's family was entirely different than Terri Schiavo's," said a spokesman for the majority leader, who declined requests for an interview.

Not entirely different.....
"Both stricken patients were severely brain-damaged. Both were incapable of surviving without medical assistance. Both were said to have expressed a desire to be spared from being kept alive by artificial means. And neither of them had a living will."

One difference is that the whole family agreed on the decision.
